Between Self and Other

‘The self’ may be reflected by the skin; however, the skin is not ‘the self’. Rather, it is the material that supports the senses that make ‘the self’.

This body of work explores the materiality of skin. Through an analysis of Anzieu’s theory of the ‘Skin Ego’ and Bataille’s concept of the ‘formless’, this body of work questions the source of ‘the self’ by conveying detached skin as a surface, a boundary and a container.
